Fourth of July celebration comes to an end as council says no to continuing the annual event

The Fourth of July is coming to an end – at least as far as the City of Lemoore’s annual participation in the Lemoore/Navy July 4th Celebration held each year in the Lemoore City Park is concerned.

Councilmembers, following a dismal report from Recreation Director Joe Simonson that the annual event just isn’t drawing the people it used to, decided to do away with the city’s participation.

“Since 1989 the City has been involved in the celebration here locally,” said Simonson. “I think we are just trying to fill a need that’s not really there.”

The Recreation Commission recently voted to do away with the annual event, he said. The annual event has been getting a lot of competition from other venues, including a massive fireworks show at theTachi Hotel and Casino. The Navy also puts on a show for its residents.

The Recreation Department will continue to run its annual Fourth of July 3K and 5 K run.
