Let's continue the positive leadership at West Hills College
Lee garnered 43.32 percent of the vote, a whopping total of 279 votes, while Falter finished with 39.44 percent of the vote and 254 votes. The other person in the race, Sophia Aguilar, took in 15.84 percent of the vote for 102 votes.
There were 7,304 registered voters in this particular Lemoore District and according to the Elections Department, only 114 persons bothered to hop in their car or walk to the nearest precinct to vote in the Lemoore district as well as in Area 5 in which Mark McKean won another term on the Board of Directors. There were 809 mailed in ballots in Kings County.
I don’t have any disagreement with the final turnout. The winner, Lee, is fully capable of doing a good job based on his experience as an officer in the U.S. Navy and former councilmember. All of the candidates would have done an excellent job for that matter.
One has to be disappointed in the turnout however, and I’ve always believed most elections should coincide with state and national elections every two years. It would save us a few bucks and garner more voter interest.
At any rate, we hope whomever serves on the board, remembers that the West Hills College District has earned a solid reputation in California community college circles, and it’s in the best interest of everybody that we continue to improve and expand our local college.Opinion
