Recently the Lemoore Explorers took part in the Central Law Enforcement Competition, an annual event open to law enforcement Explorer Posts throughout California. The Competition took place this year on April 15-16 with the awards ceremony held April 17 at the Porterville Fairgrounds.
On the competition’s first day, different Explorer posts competed in a variety of scenarios where they were faced with simulated incidents similar to the kind that police officers face on a regular basis – felony traffic stops, negotiations, domestic violence, oral panels, written exam, vehicle searches, suspicious persons, medical aid, DUI Stop, and firing range.
The second day had Explorer Posts competing in several events, including a tug of war, individual obstacle courses, and team obstacle courses. The obstacle course includes a six-foot wall, weighted dummy drag, and the pushing of a patrol SUV across a finish line.
Oral and written exams are also given and the Explorers that rank the highest earn scholarships.
The Lemoore Police Department placed Explorers in the following events:
- Third place, Night time traffic stop
- Third place, Oral Panel
- Fourth place, Tug of War (5-person team)
- Fifth place, Scholarship was awarded to Estaleen Dennison in the amount $500.00 and a Laptop.
