Since the new 19th Avenue overpass was completed a couple of years ago, the Kings Lions Park (formerly the 19th Avenue Park) has undergone somewhat of a transformation as well. The park includes a walking and jogging trail, a pair of dog parks, two softball fields, bathrooms and a concession area.

And beginning next week it will have a brand new playground, courtesy of a $120,475 park’s grant from the California Department of Housing and Community Development. The grant was done in coordination with the affordable housing complex built adjacent to the park.

Construction on the new park, which includes playground equipment for kids – slides, trestles, park benches and just about anything a rambunctious child needs – began this week and should be completed by Monday. City officials will also conduct a ribbon-cutting ceremony sometime next week.

The City isn’t finished with improvements. As part of Lemoore’s Capital Improvement Project’s list, the city plans to rebuild the restrooms and concession stand at the west end of the park, hopefully sometime next year.

“We’re already planning,” said Public Works Director Nathan Olson. “It should be next year.”

The playground equipment was purchased from Miracle Play Systems. It also installed the equipment for the city. Inspectors will take a look at it, probably by Friday, and give the go-ahead for use.
