Navy veteran adds his name to list for council run

Current Councilmember Eddie Neal was the first to return his nomination papers, following by Ray Etchegoin and former Planning Commissioner Dave Brown. Educator Holly Blair and former city employee Joe Simonson have also pulled papers to run. Late Thursday, Lemoore resident Angela Valenzuela told The Leader she had returned her nomination papers.

The nomination period opened July 18 and closes Aug. 12.

Lemoore Mayor Lois Wynn and councilmember Billy Siegel have indicated they do not intend to run again.

Halliman is a 20-year Navy veteran, and he says he’s running to bring some stability to the council. “There seems to be a lot of stuff going on in the city,” said Halliman. “I noticed how much bickering was going on.”

Halliman also worked for Kings County and the Department of Corrections before finally retiring.

He cited controversies such as the talk of selling the city’s golf course and water issues that sparked his interest in running. “I thought that maybe I could make a difference.”

Halliman is originally from Dos Palos and has lived in Lemoore since 1988. He is married to Ranysha and has a sophomore daughter at Lemoore High School.

“Hopefully I can get on the council and make a difference.”
