Sierra Pacific High School principal found deceased by Hanford police

The Kings County Sheriff’s Department announced this morning (Aug. 23) that Sierra Pacific High School Principal Gregory Henry, who had been reported missing, was found deceased, the suspected victim of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

On Aug. 22, at about 2:30 p.m. the sheriff’s office received a “check the welfare” and be on the lookout for a possible distraught subject who was possibly suicidal. The missing person was Henry and he was believed to be driving his maroon-colored Chevy pick-up.

In a short while the sheriff’s deputies were contacted by the Hanford Police Department that it had found Henry. The Hanford police had been able to do an emergency trace on Henry’s cell phone and placed him in the area of 14th Ave. and Elder Ave., north of Hanford.

Hanford police officers quickly found Henry in his vehicle. He was deceased.

The Kings County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Coroner was summoned to the scene and transported the body to the Kings County Morgue where a forensic pathological examination will take place.

Henry had been on the job at Sierra Pacific for the last year. Previously he served as the school’s vice principal.

Henry had also worked at Pioneer Middle School for 10 years, and completed his term there as the school’s principal. He also served as a math teacher at Hanford High School from 1999 to 2004.

He attended College of the Sequoias, Fresno Pacific University and Brandman University. He earned a bachelor’s degree in math and a teaching credential while at Fresno Pacific. He earned his master’s degree and an administrative credential at Brandman University.
