WHC Lemoore hosts Disability Awareness" event Oct. 19

From West Hills College Lemoore

West Hills College Lemoore will celebrate National Disability Awareness Month on Oct. 19 with its annual Operation Awareness event. Students, staff and community members are welcome to attend.

The event will held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Pedersen-Semas Plaza, outside the Learning Resource Center. It will feature food, games and representatives from community groups and organizations, including many organizations offering services for those with disabilities.

“The event is to bring awareness to the community and staff about individuals with disabilities as well as provide education about the programs and services available to this population,” said Lataria Hall, Associate Dean of Categorical Programs at West Hills College Lemoore.

A variety of activities will also be offered to raise awareness of individuals with disabilities, including activities meant to give students an understanding of what it’s like to live with a disability.

Operation Awareness Day is also a chance to learn about the many supportive services offered by the WHCL Educational Access and Learning Support Program, which include access to assistive technology, text in alternate formats, testing services and more.
