West Hills preschool program gets top rating from Kings rating system

QRIS rates programs using a “tier” rating system, from 1-5, with 5 being the highest level of quality. 

WHCL has also been awarded $30,000 to continue improving the programs as a result of the five-tier rating. These funds go directly to the programs and are used for resources and toward further enhancing the quality of care.

“Our success in our QRIS rating is 100 percent because everyone on our team from an assistant, to office staff, understand that quality is much bigger than a rating number or a label,” said Jeff Coach. “It is about that daily quality interaction and understanding how that moment, and that one day, can affect and guide children into becoming successful students, community members, and lifelong learners. I am so proud to be working with such outstanding professionals.”

WHCL participated in the rating process, with the center receiving visits from observers who rated based on criteria including emotional and behavioral support, teacher sensitivity, behavior guidance, and facilitation of learning and development.

In addition to the QRIS, WHCL is also recognized by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), which recognizes programs nationally as high quality. WHCL’s program is one of only two NAEYC programs in Kings County.
