Valadao votes to keep government open. House passes spending package Wednesday

Kings County’s Congressman David G. Valadao Wednesday (Sept. 26) voted to keep the government open through at least Dec. 7. The massive spending measure now goes to President Trump who indicated that he would sign the bill despite some reservations, including lack of funding for a border wall.

Valadao said the vote, with a 361-61 margin, ensures the continued operations of critical programs that he says are crucial to Central Valley families.  

The spending package, Conference Report to Accompany H.R. 6157, includes Department of Defense and Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education (LHHS) funding. In addition, the package also includes a short-term Continuing Resolution (CR), to extend funding for the other federal agencies through December 7, 2018. 

“This bill gives our troops the pay raises they deserve, boosts funding to find treatments and cures for diseases like Alzheimer’s and improves education programs for all Central Valley students,” said Valadao. “

The package prioritizes spending on rebuilding our armed forces, restoring military readiness, and supporting our veterans while improving our nation’s health and safety and improving education for all students.

Specifically, the legislation includes the following Defense and Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education Appropriations:
