Lemoore High NJ cadet, will takes his marksmanship skills to national NJROTC competition

Wilkins is Lemoore NJROTC’s top shooter, and recently, William placed first amongst the top 64 shooters at the Area-11 championships on January 19, 2019. The Area-11 NJROTC units consist of the 54 units located throughout the states of California and Arizona.
Thanks to his most recent win, Wilkins will compete against the top NJROTC shooters throughout the United States in Anniston, Alabama from February 7-9, 2019. Wilkins made his mark in the sport practicing four days per week, before and after school.
To qualify to compete in Anniston, Wilkins shot a 94.5% average in the prone position, an 84.5% average in the standing or off-hand position, and a 91.5% average in the kneeling position, totaling 540 out of 600 possible points.
If the Lemoore NJROTC shooter places well in Alabama, he will be invited back to Anniston, Alabama to compete at the JROTC National Event, which comprises the top shooters in the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine JROTC units. The national competition occurs at the end of February. William’s shooting averages have steadily improved these past three years:
William’s plans after graduating from Lemoore High School this summer is to attend the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
