Kings County deputies arrested a Hanford man on charges of attempted murder, assault with a firearm, and negligent discharge of a firearm after he exchanged gunfire with another male.

It was on Saturday, March 23, at about 5 p.m. that deputies arrived on Carolyn Ave. in Hanford regarding two males shooting at each other. The victims, according to sheriff’s reports, had gone to the residence to retrieve a vehicle belonging to a family member. While the victims tried to recover the car, the suspect, Paul Sanchez, exited the house and began pointing a pistol at the victims.

An argument ensued, and Sanchez retreated into his residence, and upon closing the front door, he fired two shots through the door from inside of the home toward the street.

One of the victims exchanged fire, striking the front door and metal siding on the residence. None of the involved parties were injured in the exchange of gunfire.

When deputies arrived, Sanchez refused to exit the residence or speak with them. The Kings County Sheriff's Office SWAT Team responded, and after a short time convinced Sanchez to exit the house. Upon exiting the residence, deputies took Sanchez into custody after a brief struggle. A search warrant was executed on Sanchez residence and several firearms were recovered.

Sanchez was booked into the Kings County Jail.
