Not only did the thousand-plus visitors enjoy themselves, but a pair of local organizations received checks from the Brewfest proceeds.
The City of Lemoore Parks and Recreation Department earned a $2,500 check while Valley Children’s Hospital was the recipient of a $5,000 award to fight cancer. According to this year’s chairman, Ray Etchegoin, Valley Children’s Hospital came to Lemoore recently for a presentation. “The child cancer rate in our part of the Valley is unbelievably higher than anywhere else in the United States, and they haven’t been able to pinpoint why,” said Etchegoin.
“After hearing that presentation, we all agreed who our beneficiary for this year would be. The $5,000.00 is the most we've given to one organization, and we hope that it helps make a difference in this field,” he added.
Etchegoin said all the Lions members pitched in. They also had over 100 community volunteers on hand Saturday night to help. At least 40 of them were sailors from Lemoore Naval Air Station. “We couldn’t do this without their (volunteers) help, and I appreciate each and every one of them,” he said. “I say this every year, but it just goes to show you what an unselfish community we live in and thanks to all our supporting causes this year.”
