Kings County health officials confirm 10 new COVID-19 cases; 50 cases recovered

The Kings County Department of Public Health (KCDPH) reported Saturday night (May 9) that the county currently has 224 active COVID-19 cases, and while 50 Kings County residents have recovered, there remains just one death. Total cases sit at 275 (since the outbreak began). Health officials reported Saturday evening 10 additional cases of COVID-19 in Kings County. KCDPH determined that one new case contracted the disease through close contact with a confirmed case.

The exposure of the nine additional cases is still under investigation. Six cases are being treated in isolation, and all other cases have been quarantined.

KCDPH is currently conducting communicable disease investigations to identify any persons who may have had close personal contact with these individuals, including any friends, family members, or health care professionals, to assess and monitor them for signs and symptoms of illness. Due to privacy laws, no specific information regarding any of the 265 cases can be shared with the public.

Latest California Update

As of May 8, California health officials report that the state now has 62,512 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 2,585 deaths. Local health departments also report that as of May 7, their departments have reported 6,821 confirmed positive cases in health care workers and 36 deaths statewide. More than 875,272 tests have been given in California.
