Kings County Wednesday night confirms 23 COVID-19 cases. 103 residents recovered

The Kings County Department of Public Health (KCDPH) has confirmed 23 additional cases of the Novel Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). KCDPH has determined that three new cases contracted the disease through close contact with a confirmed case. The exposure of the 20 additional cases is still under investigation.

The attached graph illustrates that Hanford, Kings County's largest community, has a majority of the COVID-19 cases with 202. Lemoore has a reported 56 cases total, while Corcoran, Avenal, and the unincorporated part of the county report the remaining cases. 

The Leader learned today (May 14) that as of May 13, 120 out of the 348 confirmed Kings County cases of COVID-19 were related to the outbreak at the Central Valley Meat Company in Hanford. "We continue working with all businesses in Kings County to prevent and limit the spread of COVID-19," said a health department spokesperson. The Central Valley Meat Company outbreak is the county's largest COVID-19 incident.

Of the total active cases, six are being treated in isolation, and all other cases have been quarantined. KCDPH has also identified 16 previously identified cases that have fully recovered. There is only one Kings County death and a total of 103 patients have recovered.

KCDPH is currently conducting communicable disease investigations to identify any persons who may have had close personal contact with these individuals, including any friends, family members, or health care professionals, to assess and monitor them for signs and symptoms of illness. Due to privacy laws, no specific information regarding any of the 348 cases can be shared with the public.

Local health departments also report that as of May 12, their departments have reported 7,274 confirmed positive cases in health care workers and 39 deaths statewide.
