Update: Kings health officials confirm 10 more COVID-19 cases; 106 recover

The Kings County Department of Public Health (KCDPH) has confirmed 10 additional cases of the Novel Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). The exposure of the 10 additional cases is still under investigation. Of the total active cases, five are being treated in isolation, and all other cases have been quarantined.

The attached graph illustrates that Hanford, Kings County's largest community, has a majority of the COVID-19 cases with 202. Lemoore has a reported 56 cases total, while Corcoran, Avenal, and the unincorporated part of the county report the remaining cases. 

The Leader learned (May 14) that 120 out of the 348 confirmed Kings County cases of COVID-19 reported on Wednesday, were related to the outbreak at the Central Valley Meat Company in Hanford. "We continue working with all businesses in Kings County to prevent and limit the spread of COVID-19," said a health department spokesperson. The Central Valley Meat Company outbreak is the county's largest COVID-19 incident.

Of the total active cases, five are being treated in isolation, and all other cases have been quarantined. KCDPH has also identified three previously identified cases that have fully recovered. There is only one Kings County death and a total of 106 patients have recovered as of Thursday night (May 14).

KCDPH is currently conducting communicable disease investigations to identify any persons who may have had close personal contact with these individuals, including any friends, family members, or health care professionals, to assess and monitor them for signs and symptoms of illness. Due to privacy laws, no specific information regarding any of the 358 cases can be shared with the public.

As of May 14, California health officials report that the state now has 73,164 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 3,032 deaths. Local health departments also report that as of May 13, their departments have reported 7,752 confirmed positive cases in health care workers and 42 deaths statewide. More than 1,104,651 tests have been given in California.
