Kings County health officials report second death from COVID-19 Friday night

The Kings County Department of Public Health (KCDPH) Friday evening (May 15) confirmed the second Novel Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) death in Kings County. The patient's exposure is under investigation. The individual was over 65 years old.

"The County is deeply saddened by this loss to COVID-19 and extends our condolences to the family for their loss," said Edward Hill, Director of Kings County Department of Public Health. "This is a tragic reminder of how serious COVID-19 can be, and we continue to encourage all residents to practice social distancing, and take all other precautions to keep yourself safe, including staying at home if you're feeling ill."

KCDPH is currently conducting communicable disease investigations to identify any persons who may have had close personal contact with these individuals, including any friends, family members, or health care professionals, to assess and monitor them for signs and symptoms of illness. Due to privacy laws, no specific information regarding any of the 372 cases can be shared with the public.

Local health departments also report that as of May 13, their departments have reported 7,752 confirmed positive cases in health care workers and 42 deaths statewide.
