The Kings County Department of Public Health (KCDPH) confirmed Tuesday night (June 2) the sixth death associated with the Novel Coronavirus 2019 (COIVD-19). County health officials indicate the death was the result of close contact with a confirmed case. The individual was over the age of 65 years old.

County health officials also say that 308 patients have recovered from the disease.

The California Department of Public Health is reporting 115,310 total cases as of today (June 3). Officials also report 4,286 fatalities while administering a total of 2,071,591 COVID-19 tests.

“We are sad to announce the death of another Kings County resident. We sympathize with the family and their loss at this time,” said Dr. Milton Teske, Kings County's health officer. “We would like to remind the community that this is the reason why we continue to protect the vulnerable, the elderly, as well as all Kings County residents by washing your hands, social distancing, and wearing a face covering.”

The KCDPH has confirmed 31 additional cases of the Novel Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Kings County, and of the 31 new cases, eight of them are associated with Kings County’s two state prisons. Health officials have determined that nine of the new cases contracted the disease through close contact with a confirmed case. The exposure of the additional 22 remaining new cases is still under investigation.

Of the total active cases, 16 are being treated in isolation, and all other cases have been quarantined. KCDPH has also identified four previously identified cases that have fully recovered from the disease.
