COVID-19 Update: Two more fatalities reported; 1,252 persons have recovered

The Kings County Department of Public Health (KCDPH) Friday night confirmed the 11th and 12th Novel Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) associated deaths, bringing the county's total to 12 fatalities. Health officials have determined patients' exposure came from close contact with a confirmed case. These individuals were over the age of 65 years old.

“The impact of COVID-19 continues to be felt in Kings County, and we sympathize with those that have lost dear ones to the disease,” said Edward Hill, Director of Kings County Department of Public Health. “We appeal to residents to do their part to slow down the spread and avoid additional unnecessary deaths. This is why it is particularly important that we continue to follow the recommendations known to help protect ourselves and others from the disease.”

The Kings County Department of Public Health (KCDPH) has also confirmed 81 additional cases of Novel Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID19). Of the 81 new cases, a total of 61 cases are from Kings County's state prisons. KCDPH has determined that 62 of the new cases contracted the disease through close contact with a confirmed case. The exposure of the additional 19 remaining new cases is still under investigation. Of the total active cases, 32 cases are being treated in isolation, and all other cases have been quarantined.

KCDPH has also identified 235 previously identified cases that have fully recovered from the disease.

KCDPH is currently conducting communicable disease investigations to identify any persons who may have had close personal contact with these individuals, including any friends, family members, or health care professionals, to assess and monitor them for signs and symptoms of illness. Due to privacy laws, no specific information regarding any of the 2,057 cases can be shared with the public
