Lemoore’s Grocery Outlet, located in Gateway Plaza, is doing more than its part during the pandemic to help local food agencies provide food for hungry families in Lemoore and Hanford.

Due to COVID-19, local food agencies have experienced a growing need to provide food for children prematurely released from school and their families. The pandemic has resulted in record lows for food bank inventories across the country, even in Kings County.

To combat food insecurity, on June 24, Grocery Outlet launched its 10th annual Independence from Hunger (IFH) national food drive campaign. The campaign collected food and cash donations in-store and online – through the end of July – that will be distributed directly to local food agencies across the nation.

In the first nine years of the program, employees, and partners, and customers collectively raised over $7 million in cash and food donations. Grocery Outlet raised over $2 million just a year ago, its biggest haul ever.

Customers contributed to the food drive campaign by giving $5 and getting $5 in the form of a$5 coupon for a future purchase of $25 or more. Customers could also make an in-store donation at the register.
