The West Hills Community College District (WHCCD) welcomed a new governing board member, Dr. Crystal Jackson. Dr. Jackson was installed at the WHCCD annual organizational meeting on December 15.

“Dr. Jackson represents Trustee Area 4 in Lemoore, and I am delighted to welcome her as our newest member.  She brings a wealth of experience and new, fresh ideas and perspectives," said WHCCD Chancellor Dr. Stuart Van Horn.

Jackson is a New York native raised in Martinsville, Virginia. Before she arrived in Lemoore, Jackson spent four years in the Navy.  She served as an aviation ordnanceman, was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, and deployed during Desert Storm.

Jackson sees her time in the Navy as valuable. “The Navy taught me how to adjust to things quickly and to communicate with people around me,” she said.

Dr. Jackson holds a bachelor's degree in theology, a master's in Christian Counseling, and in 2016 she completed her doctorate in divinity. She has taught in both K-12 and college classrooms and has an extensive background and passion for education.

“I love helping people and feel education is vital to the upward mobility,” said Jackson.  “I am looking forward to helping those in my community reach the next level through higher education.”

Jackson replaces the former board member Bobby Lee and will represent Trustee area 4 in Lemoore. Jackson was installed on the WHCCD board along with Martin Maldonado, who was re-elected, Steve Cantu, who ran unopposed, and Mark McKean, also unopposed.
