West Hills College announces emergency aid grants available for local students

West Hills Community College District offers emergency aid for students attending West Hills College Coalinga, West Hills College Lemoore, and North District Center. Students can request to receive up to $1000 each to help them attend college.

Grant funds can be used for anything students may need, including food, rent, car, gas, laptop, etc. To be eligible, students must be registered for 6 units or more at WHCC, WHCL, or NDC and have completed a FAFSA or DREAM Act Application.

"The Finish Line Scholars program is designed to help our students complete their course of study at West Hills, “said West Hills Community College Foundation Executive Director Alex Perez. “There are hurdles students face that are beyond what scholarships and book vouchers currently provide. The pandemic has only made the situation worse. Students need to pay rent, buy groceries, pay for gas, pay internet bills, and other expenses that can distract them or keep them from focusing on their education. This program will help them overcome those obstacles and get obtain their educational goals."

One hundred and twenty-eight emergency grants will be given to students at each campus, with a total of two hundred and six being delivered district-wide. Students are eligible for up to $2,000 over their entire time at West Hills, and funds will be made available to students shortly after their eligibility is determined.
