Lemoore's Lions Park, which doubles as a ponding basin, was put to work this weekend as a series of strong storms passed through or were scheduled to much needed rain to Lemoore and the Valley (Image Gallery).
Lions Park hasn't had water in it for a long time, but it was filled this weekend.
The strength of the Friday morning storm did create some flooding at various parts of Lemoore.
Despite the recent respite from the drought, city officials plan to present a review of the city’s water use policy to council member during Tuesday night’s study session. The city adopted the policy in 2003 regarding the wasting of water. The ordinance requires:
-
No excessive water running from property.
-
Filling of swimming pools of 5,000 gallons or more is only permitted every two years.
-
Washing of cars, boats and other vehicles is prohibited unless a hose is fitted with a quick acting positive shutoff nozzle.
-
Washing of exterior asphalt or concrete is prohibited except for businesses regulated by federal, state or county health departments.
-
Outdoor watering is restricted to Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday or Wednesday, Friday, Saturday based on address.
In addition the city will reduce scheduled landscape watering of city property by 25 percent and reduce flushing of fire hydrants to the minimum required by the fire department.
