West Hills College Foundation tees it up for Presidential Scholars program

From West Hills College
The West Hills Community College District Foundation is hosting its 18th annual golf tournament next month to raise funds for the President’s Scholars Program.

“The program is funded primarily through contributions at our annual golf tournament,” said Frances Squire, executive director of the Foundation. “The tournament, along with other contributions that come from the public and our employees, provide about $100,000 a year in support for the program.” The golf tournament will be held at Kings Country Club in Hanford on Monday, May 5. Participants should register in four-person teams at a cost of $200 per person. To secure your registration, all fees must be received by Friday, April 25.

On the day of the event, teams can begin to check in at 10 a.m. Lunch will be provided at 11:30 a.m., followed by a shot gun and putting contest at 12:30 p.m. Dinner and prizes will conclude the event at 5:30 p.m.

Major sponsors of the event include AP Architects, Educational Employees Credit Union, Pepsi, Chevron and PG&E. There will be a hole-in-one contest for a car donated by Keller Motors. A cash prize will be awarded in a second hole-in-one contest, sponsored by Mackey and Mackey Insurance.

“We are expecting as many as 150 President’s Scholars at West Hills during the next academic year and we couldn’t provide this wonderful opportunity without our golfers and other sponsors,” said Squire.

The scholarship program is open to seniors graduating from any California high school with a 3.5 or higher grade point average and four semesters of California Scholarship Federation eligibility. All qualified applicants are accepted and receive free tuition and up to $250 a semester for books for four semesters.
