West Hills College hosts Chevron Science Camp

West Hills College Coalinga is now accepting applications for Chevron’s first Fun Physical Science Camp, geared toward elementary school students. The camp is free for children thanks to a gift to the West Hills Community College Foundation from Chevron.

Each camp session will run for one week. Registration is limited to 20 openings per camp with spots granted on a first-come, first-serve basis. The session dates are July 14-18 and July 21-25. Session one is for students in grades first through third, and session two is for students in grades four through six.

WHCC is hosting the camp, which is funded in full by Chevron.  Biochemistry instructor Mayra Vargas has created curriculum that aligns with the California State Standards for Science at the elementary levels. Multisensory techniques including hands-on experiments and lecture demonstrations will be employed in an interactive learning environment.

Parents will need to fill out an application for their student, and each student will need to submit a drawing related to physical science. Applications are available in the administration building at WHCC.

Camp sponsors are Chevron, WHCC and the West Hills College Foundation.
