Cancer Society provides free transportation to treatment facilities

Having cancer is hard. Finding help shouldn’t be. Through its all-volunteer-run Road To Recovery program the American Cancer Society provides free transportation to and from treatment facilities to help cancer patients receive the critical care they need.

In many cases, a patient is driven to treatment facilities by relatives or friends, but even these patients must occasionally seek alternative transportation, and that’s when this program can help. Pre-registration at 800-227-2345 is required four days in advance of the transportation need.

Female cancer patients experiencing appearance-related side effects from their treatment are encouraged to pre-register for the free two-hour Look Good Feel Better workshop held monthly at Sequoia Regional Cancer Center in Hanford.

Each participant will receive a complimentary cosmetic kit in the workshop, and learn about hair, nail and skin care as it pertains to cancer patients in treatment. Pre-registration at 800-227-2345 is required three days in advance of the scheduled workshop.

The American Cancer Society also provides one free wig per female cancer patient per year. Please call the Hanford ACS office directly at 559-584-6616 to schedule a wig fitting appointment. Newly diagnosed breast cancer patients can receive one-on-one mentoring from a trained breast cancer survivor through the Society’s Reach To Recovery program.

To pre-register for these programs, and for more information about all free programs and services, call 800-227-2345. Patients can also inquire about support groups and clinical trials.

A local volunteer-run Society office and resource library is located at 1443 West 7th Street inside the Sequoia Regional Cancer Center of Hanford. The local office number is 559-584-6616.
