Services scheduled for long time educator Lester Parry

Lester Evan Parry passed away peacefully on July 9, 2024, five days shy of his 94th birthday, in Hanford, California. Lester was born in Lime Springs, Iowa, on July 14, 1930, the only child of Welsh immigrant and WWI U.S. army veteran Evan Ellis Parry and first-grade teacher Nettie (Smith) Parry.

Lester was a proud resident of Lemoore and Cayucos, having moved to California in 1961. He graduated from the University of Northern Iowa and later obtained master's degrees in education and psychology.

He married Patricia Lou Baker on December 28, 1958, in her native Redfield, Iowa. He worked initially as a speech therapist for children in local school districts. Lester spent most of his career as a child psychologist and assistant superintendent in the Central Union Elementary School District in Lemoore. He also worked as a school psychologist in Armona and Lemoore High School. Lester dedicated his life to helping children.

Lester was an athlete all his life, garnering high school all-state honors in Iowa basketball and numerous college scholarship offers in basketball, football, and baseball. He continued to compete as a boxer for the U.S. Navy, having enlisted in 1950. He was an avid lifetime golfer and played courses all over the world, often without consulting his wife of 65 years.

Lester's true joy was going to his home in Cayucos, California to spend time with his family. Lester is survived by his wife Patty Lou, sons Tom and Bill, and his beloved grandchildren Grace, Evan, Gwen, Owen, and Jane.

Celebration of Life Services will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 2 p.m. at the Lemoore High School Presentation Center, with a reception to follow at the Lemoore Fleet Reserve. All are welcome.
