Jo was born Valeria Juanita Cross to Uriel Rogers Cross and Mildred Catherine Red Cross on August 21, 1946, in Selma, California. She passed peacefully in her sleep at home in Lemoore, California, on March 21, 2024. Raised at Hall’s Corner north of Lemoore, she attended local Lemoore schools and received an AA Degree at nearby Coalinga College.

Jo worked as a bank teller at the Lemoore Crocker Bank.  She met her future husband, Thomas Richard Cauble, on a blind double date, and they married on September 18, 1976.  Tom was a Marine, and subsequently, Jo toured the U.S. and locations around the world as Tom transferred.  She especially enjoyed the beauty of Cuba as Tom served at Guantanamo Bay.  They returned to Lemoore upon Tom’s retirement from the US Marine Corps in 1993.  Jo had a strong faith. She and Tom attended various churches throughout their marriage.  Tom preceded her in death in 2014. Her family is thankful she is at peace, without pain, and with her Lord Jesus and beloved Tom.

They were a creative couple. Jo enjoyed making porcelain dolls, scrapbooking, keeping up photo albums, and acquiring collectibles of various sorts, while Tom enjoyed woodworking.  Jo leaves behind her sister, Valda Fernald, of Lemoore, nephews Steven Fernald (wife Pat) of Carmichael, Bill McDonald of Fair Oaks, nieces Tina Burke (husband Michael) of Auburn, Tracy Gudgel (husband Dan) of Lemoore, great-nephews Garrett Gudgel (wife Jenna), Joshua Gudgel, Devin McDonald, and great-niece Jennifer Gudgel.

Jo consistently showed love to her family throughout her adult life. Holidays and birthdays were always marked by a greeting card from her. Valeria, Jo, Sis, and Aunt Jo will always be remembered for her sweet, generous nature. The world was certainly a better place with her presence. The family could not have asked for a better sister, aunt, great-aunt, cousin, or friend. Her memory will live in the family’s hearts, and she will be missed every day.

Interment will be at Lemoore Cemetery on May 11 and the ceremony will be followed by a Garden Party at her home. Please contact a family member if you need more information.
