There were 16 teams vying for Lemoore's "best designed" pizza at Saturday's annual "Pizza Making" contest in Lemoore City Park. The 16th annual contest was sponsored this year by the Educational Employees Credit Union and when all the votes were tallied, a team from Olam won with the best designed pizza. The team of Glenda Marroquin, Pamela Muncy, Tameka Lewis, Melanie Griffard and Virginia Lowe were awarded a $200 prize by EECU judges.
Second place honors went to a team from Elite Performance while third place went to an "oldtimers" team from the Lemoore Kiwanis Club. The Pizza Festival continues on Sunday with a variety of events including a pizza eating contest sponsored by Fatte Albert's Pizza.
The teams each had a similar size roll of dough and a number of ingredients they were limited to. According to judges there was only a 1-point different between the winning teams.
The annual Pizza Fest opened for business on Friday night with plenty of booths, activities for children and a beer garden. The band August also performed.
