NAS Lemoore boss to speak at May 19 West Hills College graduation

West Hills College Lemoore’s commencement ceremony will be held on May 19, with over 400 students receiving degrees and certificates. The ceremony will start at 6:30 p.m. in the West Hills College Lemoore Golden Eagle Arena.

“Commencement is my favorite time of year,” said WHCL President Dr. Kristin Clark. “It’s the culmination of our students’ hard work, dedication, and perseverance, and we enjoy celebrating their accomplishments.”    

Captain Monty Ashliman, Commanding Officer of Naval Air Station, Lemoore, will serve as commencement speaker. Captain Ashliman began his naval career in 1990, when he graduated from the United States Naval Academy and received his commission and a Bachelor’s Degree in General Engineering. He also has a Master’s Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College.

His many decorations include the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, two Meritorious Service Medals, two Individual Air Medals with Combat “V”, six Strike/Flight Air Medals, five Navy Commendation Medals, three Navy Achievement Medals, four Battle “E” awards, and various other unit and campaign awards.

Casandra Ramirez-Sanchez, this year’s Associated Student Body President, will be the student speaker. She is graduating with an associate’s degree in Psychology and transferring to California State University, Fresno to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Psychology.

An original poem will be presented by Denise McKendall.
