Lemoore High School senior Jackylyn Domingo, following an illustrious four years as a Naval Junior ROTC cadet, will pursue a Naval career after earning an appointment to the Naval Academy Preparatory School (NAPS), the first step before earning an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis.

Domingo is the latest Lemoore student to earn an appointment to a military academy. Lemoore High School has a long history of appointments, particularly to the Naval Academy.

Domingo was nominated for the Naval Academy by Hanford Congressman David Valadao. She will report to Newport, Rhode Island, where the prep school is located, by July 26. Following a successful year at NAPS, in all likelihood, Domingo should report to Annapolis by this time next year.

Domingo is the daughter of Magnolia Rogge and Jesus Domingo and is the youngest member of the family with two older sisters and an older brother.

“I never thought I would go into the military, but then I joined ROTC as a freshman,” said Domingo. She added she originally balked at entering the school’s NJ program, but was persuaded to by her mother.

She wasn’t really interested in joining the military either, but by the end of her sophomore year, she began thinking about an appointment to a military academy. “I was interested,” she admitted.

She intends to major in chemistry at the Academy, and she hopes to earn her wings as a jet or helicopter pilot.

“ROTC really changed my life,” said the affable 17-year-old Domingo. “Initially I was forced into it by my mom, but I began to really get involved and learned to love it. ROTC had everything to make you well rounded. It helped to make me a much better leader, and it gave me a positive outlook on life.”

As a high school senior this year, Domingo was the nationally ranked NJROTC unit’s commanding officer based on her outstanding school record, a record that included extraordinary academic achievement, phenomenal leadership traits and flawless moral character, all that according to her unit commander, Lt. Cmdr. John Wolstenholme, who on Tuesday swore Jacklyn in to the Navy.

The talented and hard-working Domingo has been a student at Lemoore High School all four years. She has maintained an impressive 4.15 GPA, and is currently ranked 11 out of 441 seniors at LHS.  “She will undoubtedly become an outstanding naval officer in the very near future,” said Wolstenholme.

Domingo has been involved in every aspect of Lemoore High School as well as the school’s NJROTC program. Her many activities include participation in many aspects of NJ teams:  Competition Drill Teams, Academic Team, Physical Fitness Teams, Marksmanship Team and Lemoore High School Cross Country.

Domingo has also held several key leadership positions as well:  NJROTC Armed Drill Team Commander, Lemoore High School Upward Bound Math/Science, and NJROTC Commanding Officer in charge of 227 Cadets.

While a student at Lemoore High School, Domingo was awarded numerous awards and had many accomplishments:  NJROTC Distinguished Cadet (2013, 2014, 2015, 2016), NJROTC Cadet of the Year (2013, 2014), Student of the Month (2012, 2014), Relay for Life (2013 thru Present), Lemoore High School Student to Student President (2015-2016), California Scholarship Federation (2012 thru Present), Daughters of the American Revolution Leadership Award (2016), NJROTC Leadership Academy Honor Cadet (2014) and NJROTC Leadership Academy Commanding Officer (2015).

“Jacky is a self-confident and proven leader and mentor,” said Wolstenholme. “Her willingness to accept responsibility is indicative of the high degree of success she routinely achieves, and she demonstrates the required attributes necessary for success in any future opportunities.”
