The Mixed Team results are in from the 2016 Paralympics archery competition and the USA team of Jeff Fabry and Lia Coryell have come up short today (Saturday, Sept. 17) in their quest for a gold medal. Saturday was the final day of archery competition in the Paralympics. The closing ceremony will be held tomorrow (Sunday, Sept. 18).

After defeating Spain in the quarterfinals 128-113, the U.S. duo fell to the Republic of Korea and its shooters Ok-Geum Kim and Don-Sub Koo 137-125.

Great Britain won the gold medal, defeating Korean in the final match. The silver went to Korea while the bronze medal went to the Czech Republic. The U.S. team finished fourth.

Fabry’s first shot at a medal in Paralympics individual archery competition took a downturn Friday afternoon when the London gold medal winner dropped his opening round decision to South Korean Koo Dong-sub in the Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro.

The eventual gold medal winner was John Walker, an archer from Great Britain. The silver medal went to Czechoslovakia’s  David Drahoninsky.

Fabry, while obviously disappointed, took the loss in stride. “Nerves crept up on and me and bit me in the butt,” he said from Rio de Janeiro. “It was tough to shoot when you can’t settle into the shot. Tomorrow is a new day.”

Fabry hopes to get back on track tomorrow (Saturday, Sept. 17) when he and partner Lia Coryell take on Spain and its best Paralympic shooters, Leal Oliveros and Camus Sanchez, in the first quarterfinal match about 10 a.m.

There are seven teams battling for the Mixed Team competition gold medal. Great Britain has a bye in the first round. The finals will be held about 5:30 p.m.
