The 2nd Annual West Hills College Car Show was a great success, featuring 18 cars— ranging from a vintage Mercury to a several thousand ton truck— and generating over $5,000 for scholarships.

Proceeds from the Sept. 10 event at West Hills College Coalinga will benefit the President’s Scholars Program, a scholarship program providing free tuition and $250 per semester for books to students across the West Hills Community College District.

“The car show was a great way to involve community members in the college and encourage support for the President’s Scholars program scholarships, which were awarded to more than 150 students this fall semester,” said Ken Stoppenbrink, Deputy Chancellor of the West Hills Community College District and event co-chair. “We were pleased with how the event went and thank the community for its support.”

Best of show, 1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place were awarded to top cars. The event also featured a beer garden and food as well as a raffle for gift baskets.

Several businesses sponsored the event including Boeing, Mid Valley Disposal, the Coalinga Community Foundation, Sasser Specialties, Coalinga’s Ice Bucket Chevron, and Taco Bell/KFC owner Kool Dhaliwal.

Money and raffle items were donated by Conde McGowan, Mark Pound, O’Reilly Auto Parts, Ron’s Barber Shop, Savemart Coalinga and Sunlit Oaks Winery of Gilroy.

“We’d like to thank our sponsors and donors for helping make this event a success,” Stoppenbrink said.
