Students at West Hills College Lemoore will soon have a new place to study and socialize on campus: a brand-new Student Union.

The Golden Eagle Student Union, which is the first building built on the WHCL campus since the opening of the Golden Eagle Arena in 2011, is scheduled for a grand opening on Jan. 17 at 9 a.m.

The public is invited to attend the grand opening event. A tour of the building and light refreshments will be offered.

“West Hills College Lemoore promotes student engagement both inside and outside the classroom and this student union will provide additional opportunities for students to become active members of the campus community,” said Dr. Kristin Clark, President of WHCL. “It will be a great place for students to grab a bite to eat, access services, meet new friends, and relax in between classes.  It is very exciting to see this project, that will benefit all our students, come to fruition.”

The new building, which will be completed in December 2016, will be home to the Associated Student Body, bookstore, cafeteria, and a Golden Eagle Help Desk, where students will have access to admission, records and registration services.

Construction costs were funded in part by local tax dollars from Measure E and Measure L, passed by voters in 2008.

“The generous support of the voters has allowed us to improve our facilities so that West Hills College Lemoore can continue providing high quality instruction that will better prepare our students for careers in our community,” said Clark. “We are thankful.”
