Community Services to inaugurate 'Luau on the Green'

The Lemoore Community Services Department, in an effort to enhance its Youth Scholarship Fund, announced last week a new event to raise funds for the program that awards scholarships to kids, helping them participate in recreational programs.

The event, to be called Luau on the Greet, will be held on Saturday, March 11 at the Lemoore Golf Course and will begin at 1 p.m. with a four-person scramble golf tournament, followed by a full-blown Luau, complete with authentic food, music, fire performers and dancers, which begins at 6 p.m.

All the proceeds from this unique event will go to the department’s Youth Scholarship Fund, which allows any qualifying child the opportunity to participate in any recreation class, program, or event that the city offers. The department has a wide array of activities including indoor soccer, boxing, karate, dance, drama, swimming, basketball, t-ball, flag football and more.

Last year the department gave out over $9,000 in scholarships.

The Community Services Department is encouraging participation by the public by attending the event or by entering the golf tournament and dinner. Advertising opportunities are also available by sponsoring the event or a hole, or donating a silent auction gift.
