Report of gun on West Hills College Lemoore campus false

By The Leader Staff

On Wednesday, Jan. 25, West Hills College Lemoore was forced to deal with an emergency lock down on campus due to a report – later unfounded – that there may have been a suspect with a gun on campus.

The campus was placed on lock down immediately upon notification from campus police. The Lemoore Police Department has a full-time officer assigned to the local college, and after investigating this issue at the Middle College High School, police found the claim of a gun on campus to be unfounded.

This incident started with a student enrolled at the Lemoore Middle College High School which operates on the WHCL campus.  As a minor he is subject to the rules and regulations that govern his circumstance. The high school district is currently addressing this issue with his parents and high school administration is taking appropriate actions.

The West Hills staff regularly participate in emergency training and share emergency plans with the primary and secondary education institutions located on campus. The college and district staff, upon receiving the notification, swiftly activated the Incident Command System Team using their training and appropriate tools to keep everyone safe and informed.

WHCL values its partnership with the Middle College High School.  It has proved to be a valuable educational resource to Lemoore and its surrounding communities.
