Friends, family, and acquaintances are mourning the tragic death yesterday (April 18) of 34-year-old Zackary Randalls, who on his first ride-along as a freshly-minted Pacific Gas & Electric employee, was shockingly gunned down on downtown Fresno’s Van Ness Avenue.

Randalls is a Lemoore native and a 2001 Lemoore High School graduate who had just started working for PG&E. He was currently living in Clovis.

His death has sparked grief among his many friends and acquaintances, many from Lemoore. Friends have also set up a “Go Fund Me” account and as of Wednesday morning had garnered nearly $15,000.

The gunman, Kori Ali Muhammad, allegedly fired a gun into the PG&E truck from the passenger side. Randalls later died at Community Regional Medical Center.

An emotional Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer, in a televised news conference, said that Muhammad, 39, faces four counts of murder – the three that occurred on Tuesday, and one for the fatal shooting of a Motel 6 guard last week.

The president of PG&E, Nick Stavropoulos, also appeared at the press conference and was devastated by the tragedy.

According to Dyer, when approached by police Muhammad dropped to the ground and told officers that he did in fact shoot the victims.

Randalls was the first person shot on Tuesday. According to his friends, the likeable young man leaves behind a wife and two young children. The driver of the PG&E truck rushed Randalls to the Fresno Police Department, but was not harmed.

Marissa Trejo, the City of Coalinga's city manager, was a friend and neighbor of Randalls who lived across the street from him. "We lived on Antelope Drive," remembered Trejo. "He lived in the house directly across the street, and in our younger years we were inseparable. We gave our mothers lots of headaches."

She remembers that as youngsters she and Zack one day decided to build their own swimming pool. They borrowed shovels and proceeded to dig a large hole on the side of her house. "We dug this hole for several weeks," said Trejo. They filled the hole with water and used it for a pool. "My mom was so mad when she saw it, but that didn't stop us. We just took our shovels across the street and dug another hole in his side yard."

Trejo said that Randalls was also a fun guy. "He was always making people laugh, but he was responsible and very dedicated to his wife and kids. He lived for them, and he would help anyone who needed a hand without even being asked. He never judged anyone and always tried to understand both sides to any story. He spoke up when he felt there was injustice, he donated to causes, and he genuinely cared."
