Chevron grant funds summer STEM program at West Hills campuses

Chevron recently donated $65,000 to the West Hills Community College Foundation, which will fund a variety of programs and scholarship funds.

The donation is supporting several camps at West Hills College Coalinga, West Hills College Lemoore and in Firebaugh this summer along with other West Hills College programs including the President’s Scholars scholarship program, the 5c summer camp at West Hills College Lemoore, and the West Hills College Lemoore Engineering program.

“On behalf of the West Hills Community College District, I’d like to thank Chevron for their continued commitment to help us provide STEM education to students in our community,” said Mark McKean, President of the West Hills Community College District Board of Trustees.

This summer, the donation funded several sessions of the Chevron Fun Physical Science Camp at West Hills College Coalinga and, for the first time ever, in Mendota. Elementary and middle school students learned about physical science, math, engineering and more through fun, hands-on activities.

The Coalinga camp will run as four sessions until July 7 while the Mendota camp’s two weeks of sessions were held from June 19 to June 30.

“I would like to say thank you to West Hills,” said Megan Lopez, Policy, Government and Public Affairs Representative for Chevron’s San Joaquin Valley Business Unit. “We really appreciate our partnership and look forward to continuing it. It’s a privilege to help them offer STEM education as we know it benefits the students in this community.”
