PG&E and Women's Conference seek nominations for annual award

Interested in nomination a local woman for the annual She Makes a Difference Award sponsored annually by Pacific Gas and Electric Company and the Central Valley Women’s Conference (CCWC)?

Nominations are open until July 31 for the She Makes a Difference Award. Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) and the Central California Women’s Conference (CCWC) will again honor one remarkable woman with the She Makes a Difference Award at the 30th annual event. CCWC is the largest women’s event in the Valley and will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017, at the Fresno Convention & Entertainment Center.

Nominations can be made on the CCWC website  https://www.ccwc-fresno.org/contest/ through noon July 31.  The criterion for nominations is that a woman has overcome obstacles to make her life, her family’s life, or the lives of those in the community a better place. The winner will be notified in August.

PG&E/CCWC will again award a grant of $5,000 to the 2017 winner’s favorite community benefit organization. Anna Brooks, Senior Manager of Public Affairs for PG&E, shared that the selection committee was in awe of last year’s nominees.  “The women of the Valley have such determination to make this world a better place,” said Brooks. “Their stories of determination do make a difference! PG&E is proud to partner with CCWC and honor their journeys.”

The 2016 winner was Andrea Shabaglian, and a grant of $5,000 was donated to MadeForThem.org which empowers and offers opportunities to women who are survivors of human trafficking.

CCWC President, Nene Casares, shared that this year’s keynote speaker, Amy Purdy, is also a woman who has made a difference with her courage when overcoming unimaginable obstacles. “Despite having just a two percent chance to live due to meningitis and then becoming a double-amputee, Amy went on to become a Paralympic champion,” said Casares. “Her courage has made a difference to women across the world.” Amy Purdy is a world-class snowboarder, 2014 Paralympic Medalist, founder of Adaptive Action Sports, actress, model, dancer, clothing designer and New York Times, bestselling author.
