Lemoore’s varsity girls’ tennis team will probably have to settle for second place in the West Yosemite League despite having rolled over most of the league’s members. Lemoore’s only obstacle along the way was a dominant Redwood squad, which has beaten the Tigers twice.

Lemoore’s ladies improved to 8-2 in the WYL after outlasting El Diamante 6-3 on the Miners’ home court Tuesday afternoon. Overall Lemoore is 13-4 on the season.

Tuesday’s match was close and included two super tie-breakers. Madison Kuntz won her No. 1 singles match 7-6 (7-4), and 6-2 to lead the Tigers charge. Lizeth Garcia beat her El Diamante opponent 6-1, 6-1 and Lizzy Flores dropped her tight match 7-5, 0-6, (3-10).

In other action, Jenny Paez dropped a 4-6, 1-6 match while Aliana Cabuhat won hers 2-6, 6-4 (10-5).

The two teams were tied going into doubles’ action. The Tigers won all three doubles pairings.

The Tigers' final home match is tomorrow (Oct. 5) and then finish the season at Hanford on Oct. 10. Thursday’s match is scheduled for 4 p.m.

The WYL championships are scheduled for Oct. 13 beginning at 10 a.m. at Mt. Whitney High School.
