Lemoore’ varsity wrestlers are right on schedule for yet another West Yosemite League championship. On Wednesday in Visalia, the Tigers took on their league nemesis Redwood beating the Rangers 38-30 to take the early WYL lead.

In fact, all three levels won. The junior varsity easily got past its counterparts 36-22 while the varsity girls enjoyed a 42-37 win.

For the varsity boys, seniors Joe Romero, John Panduro, and Mateo Brewer came up with a pair of exciting pins. Jacob Gonsalves, another senior, also won his match, beating the No. three ranked wrestler in the Valley 3-2.

Freshman Wayne Joint (younger brother of last year’s state champ Gary Joint) won by a pin while a pair of sophomores won, Jesse Gayton by a technical fall, and Will Kloster, an 11-5 winner.

The Tigers will host Golden West on Wednesday, Jan. 17 in their first home dual match. The first competition usually begins about 4:30 p.m.

TheTigers will hit the road this weekend, traveling to the Fountain Valley Tournament Jan. 12 and 13.

The Tigers will be challenging for their 22nd league championship in 24 years this season. The last title came just a year ago when Lemoore had six individual champions and sent a total of 14 wrestlers to the Yosemite Division Championships.
