Tiger grapplers finish out of running at 2018 California State Wrestling Tourney
As expected, a dominant Buchanan High School won the team title Saturday night, finishing above 270 high schools competing in the state tourney.
Kloster lost to Santiago High School’s Josh Kim – the eventual state titlist – in his opening match and was immediately relegated to the consolation brackets as were the remaining four Tigers. The talented Tiger wrestler then made a go of it in consolations, beating Valencia High’s Nick Lopez in the opening round.
Kloster then beat Corning’s Jamal Smith and then handed Bakersfield’s Jared Priest a loss.
At 113 pounds Wayne Joint opened by beating Keanu Perez, then defeated Washington’s Jason Liu before dropping his third-rounder to Buchanan’s Maximo Renteria. In his only consolation match, Joint fell to Central’s Adrian Chavez.
In other action Jacob Gonsalves (222) lost his opening match to Pitman High’s Isaiah Perez, immediately dropping him into the consolation brackets where the Tiger wrestler lost to Laguna Hills’ Mario Moza.
At 138 pounds Joe Romero dropped his opener to San Marino’s Luka Wick. The Lemoore grappler beat Monta Vista Christian’s Amman Klair in the consolation before falling to Palma High’s Saul Gonzales.
Finally, at 120 pounds, Jess Gaytan lost his championship bracket opener to Poway’s Jacob Allen and then fell in the consolation’s first round to Ramona High’s Nathan Kiddoo.
