Stratford Elementary School’s Annual Spring Festival had a lot more than usual going for it this year. The school's yearly event is celebrated the Friday before Spring Break, and this year's colorful show featured something special.
This year’s festival, held in the school’s historic gymnasium, included numerous displays of student talent, including performances tied to this year’s theme: Back to the ‘80s.
The highlight of this year’s Spring Festival included a performance by students who honored their former Fourth Grade Teacher Gina Weins, who died suddenly in 2014 at the age of 56. The Cal Poly graduate began her teaching career in 1981, teaching at the small school for about 33 years before her untimely death. It was students from her last fourth-grade class – now eighth-graders – who performed in honor of their teacher.
The school also dedicated a special bench adjacent to the school’s office in memory of the longtime Stratford teacher.
The school’s gymnasium was standing room only as students performed to various tunes from the 1980s. They also got to watch a new Spring Festival Queen and King crowned. The honors went to Gloria Silva and her escort Brian Martinez.
