Despite some stiff breezes, it couldn’t have been a better evening for the Fifth Annual Kings Lions Brewfest held Saturday (June 16) in the Kings Lions Park located at the intersection of Highway 198 and 19th Avenue.
The winds prompted several Brewfest participants to take down portable tents, but despite the untimely breezes the show went off without a hitch as nearly 1,700 beer enthusiasts sipped a variety of beers, munched on corn-on-the-cob, puffed on cigars, played games and danced to Rock and Roll.
Visitors certainly had plenty of choices when it came to sipping beer. “We have three distributors here, and then we have a lot of micro-breweries,” said Lions Brewfest Chairman Ray Etchegoin, who has overseen the event for its entire existence.
The Kings Lions raise a lot of money, all of which is returned to the community in one form or another. On Saturday night, the Kings Lions handed out a check for $2,500 to the Lemoore Recreation Department, sort of a down payment for what Lions members say could eventually build a permanent stage in the park.
“We gave $2500 tonight and that goes to the parks and rec,” said Etchegoin. “We want to start funding for more park improvements for here (Kings Lions Park). The first thing we’d like to do is put in a permanent stage.”
