West Hills College Lemoore’s first-year men’s basketball team will inevitably struggle. And that’s been the case so far for Golden Eagles Coach Donnye Ross whose first-year team is winless seven games into its inaugural season. On the women’s side, the Lady Golden Eagles are 1-4 as they prepare for Friday’s Fresno Tournament Friday thru Sunday.

Coach Andrea Picci’s team opened the 2018 season with a convincing 50-41 win over Cosumnes River as the Eagles’ Alondra Ponce scored 15 points in the win. Stephanie Gomez had 10 for the Lady Golden Eagles.

In its latest venture, the men’s team gave up over 100 points for the third time this season as they fell to visiting Allan Hancock Wednesday night (Dec. 5) 104-66.

WHCL Men's Basketball Schedule

The West Hills Lemoore men will host Victor Valley on Saturday at 2 p.m. before starting play in the Compton Tartar Classic on Monday, Dec. 17-19.

Donnye’s mix of local players – including a pair of Lemoore High standouts Bryce Hernandez and Christian Espinoza – begin Central Valley Conference action on January 3 when they host Fresno City College. The Golden Eagles have a highly anticipated match with West Hills Coalinga scheduled for Jan. 26 in Lemoore.

Wednesday night’s Hancock victory was its second over the Golden Eagles this season. The Bulldogs defeated West Hills Lemoore in the Nov. 3 season opener in Santa Maria 100-40.

West Hills managed to keep the contest close in the first half, heading into the locker room trailing just 50-39. But the Bulldogs’ press was too much for the Golden Eagles as Hancock initiated a 30-5 run, blowing the modest lead into a much larger advantage.

The Lady Golden Eagles will again host their annual Lemoore Tournament which begins Friday, Dec. 14 and concludes Sunday, Dec. 16.
