Liberty Middle School students, Xitlali Siguenza, and Diego Lopez Rodriguez were big winners at the 3rd Annual Regional Speech &  Debate Tournament. Xitlali came away the big winner, finishing first.

The event was held on March 2 at the Regional Competition at the Tulare County Office of Education building in Visalia.

Her victory assured her a spot in the State Tournament taking place in Ventura in early May. Diego placed second in the local competition. Both students were assisted in their preparation by teacher Ms. Ana Llamas who worked with the students preparing them for the competition, meeting weekly, at least four times a week after school for an hour.

Both students had to prepare speeches that were three to four minutes in length prior to the competition as well as present an impromptu speech with only ten minutes to prepare.
