Local congressman adds amendment to key Climate Action Now Act that passes House of Representatives
The legislation passed with a Cox amendment designed to create a clean energy economy by taking into consideration the various populations, regions, and industries affected by climate change while reducing any possible impact on American jobs.
“There may be no other place that has felt the impacts of climate change the way my constituents have in the Central Valley,” said Cox. “We’ve seen it in the shorter winters, hotter summers, reduced precipitation, and the unreliability of our water supply. That’s why I’m proud to have voted in support of this critical piece of legislation that will protect public health; advance our economy, and ensure we have clean air and a reliable water supply for the future of our Valley families.”
Cox also insisted that when discussing the issue of climate change, Americans must consider job creation and opportunities for American workers. His amendment does just that by helping create a clean energy economy that provides good-paying 21st-century jobs for millions of Americans. “We cannot afford to take steps back in this fight and we must keep our word to work with the rest of the world in addressing the climate challenge head-on,” he added.
