Kings County officials declare local emergency due to high flood waters in Kings River

The Kings County Emergency Services Director has proclaimed a state of local emergency due to the extremely high flows of flood waters in the Kings River. The current high outflows from Pine Flat Dam and significant remaining snowpack above the dam have created a dangerous situation for recreational activities along the river.

To protect the health, safety, and welfare of the community during this time, the river and parks that abut the river are closed to recreational uses.

As a result of the proclamation of local emergency, the Kings River and all parks that abut the river are now closed to all persons in Kings County. This prohibition includes, but is not limited to, all recreational uses, such as motorized and non-motorized boating, canoeing, kayaking, the use of personal watercraft, water-skiing, sailing, rafting, tubing, wading, rafting, floating, and swimming.
