Rep. TJ Cox on Tuesday joins chorus of elected officials calling for impeachment inquiry
According to the Washington Post, Democrats accuse President Trump of suggesting that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky work with the U.S. attorney general to investigate Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and then offering to meet with the Ukrainian leader at the White House if he promised an inquiry.
The news came courtesy a transcript of a call between the two leaders released to Congress today (Sept. 25).
The statements and others, part of a July 25 phone call between Trump and Zelensky, were so concerning that the inspector general within the nation’s intelligence community thought them a possible violation of campaign finance laws.
According to the latest figures, over 200 Democrats are supporting an impeachment inquiry, many of them coming on board just in the last two days.
One of those who joined the growing list of those calling for an inquiry is Cox who joined the effort Tuesday afternoon.
“I didn’t come to Washington to impeach a president. I came here to do everything in my power to give Central Valley working families a hand up and grow our local economy for generations to come. I’ve worked every day to keep that promise,” said Cox.
“But when the President of the United States is putting his personal and political interests ahead of the American people and abusing the Constitution, we have a duty to investigate and follow the facts where they lead. An impeachment inquiry will allow us to break through the President’s stonewalling and obstruction and get the answers the American people deserve.”
The Leader attempted to contact former Rep. David Valadao via a phone number on his campaign website, but the call went unanswered. The Leader left a message instead. The Leader called the Kings County Republican Central Committee, but that call too went unanswered, and the subject’s voice mail was full.
