Update: Sarah Mooney Museum fundraiser 'Taste of Venice' rescheduled for October 17 or 24

A little taste of Venice is still coming to Lemoore but the date has changed. The dinner comes courtesy of the Sarah Mooney Museum, and at least one local chef. The event, “An Evening in Venezia, Italia,” is now scheduled for either October 17 or 24 (6-10 p.m.) at the Lemoore Civic Auditorium.

Helping to bring an Italian flavor to Lemoore are the Lemoore Rotary, Kings Lions, and The Lemoore Middle College High School’s Rotary Interact service club, all of whom are stepping up to the plate to partner with the Mooney Museum as it hosts a five-course Italian dinner, live entertainment throughout the entire evening, a silent auction of Museum surplus items, a free Venetian photo booth, and more.

“The Museum Board wanted to host a different sort of fundraiser that would be so much fun and affordable for attendees that it would become an annual event to help fund the Museum’s planned building projects,” said one of the Sarah Mooney Museum board members, Lynda Lahodny.  “We knew we couldn’t do it alone, so we reached out to our local service clubs to ask for their help.   They jumped on board without hesitation.”

The major coupe was getting a master chef, Lemoore’s Sunny Law, to cater the Italian dinner.  Many folks know Sunny and regularly patronize his restaurants:  Lemoore’s Sushi Table, Boba Island, and Hanford’s 201 Kitchen.   Fewer folks know that before 9/11, Sunny owned an Italian restaurant in New York’s World Trade Center.

For the Italian-themed event, top-notch musical entertainment was a must.   Event organizers suggested Lemoore’s own Dr. G, aka Lupe Solis, an accomplished saxophonist, who loves nothing more than to entertain the locals.

And when most folks think of a night in Venice, what immediately comes to mind is a romantic gondola ride down the Grand Canal, accompanied by an accordionist playing Italian standards.   Rick Del Carlo, an accomplished musician, will play the accordion that night. Del Carlo regularly plays at Adiamos Restaurant in Clovis.

Tickets for the event are available at Ramblin’ Rose Florist.  Individual tickets are $50 each, or a table for eight can be reserved for $400.  Tickets are limited and will NOT be available for purchase at the door.  For more information, visit:  www.sarahamooneymuseum.org or call Mike Betcher at 559-362-4374.
