Council to take a close look at proposed 362-unit housing development near West Hills College
If approved, the council’s action could lead to the city’s first major housing development in that area since the college was approved and developed. According to a council report on the project, the new housing tract will be constructed in three phases, with the first phase consisting of 152 units. Phase 2 will add another 1078 unites, and Lennar will complete its project with 103 units in the final stage.
Lennar suggests that it may create a multifamily and neighborhood commercial project in a future phase.
Access to the project would be from College Avenue, the new alignment of Semas Drive, and a new alignment of Pedersen Street. According to Lennar, homes would range from 1,103 square feet to a maximum of 2,985 square feet.
The Lemoore Planning Commission, at its May 11 regular meeting, approved the necessary steps needed to move the plan to the Lemoore City Council, the final determiner, if the project is to be developed.
In other council actions, the council members will consider a resolution to consolidate the Nov. 3 general election with the city of Lemoore’s local elections when four seats will be up for election those of Mayor Edward Neal, Christopher Schalde, and John Plourde. There is currently one vacant seat.
The nomination period to run for a council seat begins on Monday, July 13, and closes Friday, August 7.
